How can I know tha actual net card mode

Hi to everybody

    I've an AS 8400 tru64 4.0e.
    The net interface isn't configured at SRM with autonegotiation, and when
the system boots, I force the interface mode to full duplex with ifconfig
command.

    My question is: How can I be completely sure that my net card is working
into that mode?
