I only got one reply (thanks Laurent, see below) for this problem that gave me
no solution.
I installed the latest patches and now everything works fine.

Hello,
I had a similar problem not with the filemanager, but with dtmail.
In fact, problem came from the file /var/tmp/sdtdbcache_* which depends
on the display and must be owned by the session user.
If this file doesn't exist or isn't owned by the session user, printing failed.
After removing the wrong sdtdbcache_* file if it exists, you can create
the right file with the command :
/usr/dt/bin/sdtdbcache -init
In my case, I had to modify /usr/dt/config/Xstartup and
/usr/dt/config/Xreset to correctly manage sdtdbcache files
I hope this can helps you
Laurent

Dear group,we have an AlphaStation here with Tru64 V4.0E and CDE.
There is a default printer defined (lp0) via LPDEST, but when printing a file
from the filemanager the yellow light on the CDE-taskbar is blinking for some
seconds but nothing is printed. Also in the printmanager the queue stays empty.
When printing directly with lpr every is fine.
I'm sure I oversee something but cannot figure out what. It's the first alpha
with CDE for me because all other machines are accessed by the serial line and
telnet.
