The response from this list is quick as usual.

Richard Bond suggested that I can use scp, which is SSH's version of rcp. It
does things nicely if I only need to copy the files to other systems. I
probably should have mentioned that we utilize rdist's *special* directive
in our distfile to execute scripts after certain files are copied
(/var/adm/sendmail/aliases for example).

John P Speno and Paul A Sand both recommended that I check out rsync at the
following URL:

http://rsync.samba.org

I've read the man pages online, and have downloaded the source code. I also
found how to emulate rdist's *special* directive at the bottom of the
following URL:

http://rsync.samba.org/rsync/examples.html

Last but not least, Anthony A. D. Talltree shared the URL (which was also
posted to the list) where I can obtain the source for rdist.

http://www.magnicomp.com

Thanks to all who've replied!
