In short, the built-in auditing tools will perform most of the functionality I
need.
man acct auditd

Subject: Process tracking/auditing tool
Hi everyone,
I need a tool to log processes statistics. Esentially I need it to run always
and produce a log with start times of processes. The commands used and
parent-process ID's would be handy. The process UID would be good (especially
to track SID type things).
What would be realy nice, and where I think I will have trouble finding a tool,
is CPU and other resource utilization (Eg how many processor migrations, what
was the max nr of simultaneous threads, peak and avg page-fault stats, etc.)
At the bottom line, there is the price-tag for this tool :-)
Thanx for any help,
_Johan
