Need help: RAID install

Hello,

I need some advice, please.

We're a small rural ISP running Compaq Tru64 4.0F on an Alpha machine. The
machine had been running with a RAID array, but a few weeks ago we hooked
up two external hard drives, copied system files to them (one's a boot disk
that it's actually running from, and the other's a backup disk with a copy
of all of the RAID files prior to shipment), and shipped the RAID cabinet
to the vendor for a new controller & larger hard drives.

When I started this project, I had an engineer to fall back on (via remote
console access)--he copied the data over to the external drives, and I did
the physical hookups. Now the RAID cabinet has returned, and the engineer
was laid off (with no warning to us) a couple of weeks ago & has left the
country I'm told, so I'm a novice pretty much on my own.

Question: The vendor says I'll need to install the operating system on the
RAID drives before I can copy the data over to the RAID from the external
drives. I'm not quite certain how I should proceed--for one thing, how
would I install the operating system specifically on the RAID drives..I was
understanding that all we'd need to do is configure partitions and copy the
full backup back over to the RAID drives when it returned. I don't believe
that this was necessary when we switched everything to the external drives.

Would really appreciate your feedback on how I should proceed, or even
point me to some reference materials. I can't find anything in the manuals
specific to this situation. Thanks -Bill
