First of all, I must say that I was using two dd commands to test
the performance of vdump, but the conclusion was that it's the same with
or without it, and more, the "dd close error" happens on both forms.
Second, due the size of all filesystems I know that just one tape is
not enough and all that I want is the multivolume functionality of dd
command.
The problem is that for any unknown reason, the dd fails at the end
of the first tape, giving me no possibility to treat the error via
Expect routines, as I do normally when using just vdump for local
filesystems. But my jukebox is directly attached to one host and it's
the only storage that I have, so I must use dd to do remote vdumps of
other hosts.
So, I don't know what dd is trying to do when it says "Please wait
for file closing", maybe it finds the end of tape, but there are still
some data in cache to write and this "no more room" causes the error
(?!?).
Another way maybe is try to monitor the tape used and do something
just before the end of tape through Expect. I can do this, but it's
disappointed.
Any idea?

I'm facing a weird problem with "dd" when using the following command
inside a shell script:
/usr/bin/rsh host_a "/sbin/vdump -0f - /QuarterBack/clone_users |
/sbin/dd ibs=64k obs=64k " | /sbin/dd ibs=64k obs=64k
of=/dev/nrmt1h
At the end of tape, dd issues the message:
Reached end of medium for /dev/nrmt1h; Please wait for file closing
dd close error: I/O error
... and aborts the script.
I've really failed to find a solution or anything like that on the
archives.
I'm using a TZ87 DLT Drive and OS Version is 4.0F patch kit # 1 (I
know...I know....)
