System: Tru64 UNIX 5.0 (with patch kit #2 installed)
Has anyone installed the subject tape drive and used it successfully?
The installation instructions provided by Seagate were
straightforward:
- set the drive DIP switches for the particular tape drive model,
select the appropriate SCSI address
- update /etc/ddr.dbase
- run "ddr_config -c"
- attach drive
I see the correct device information returned at the console mode, ie.
"SEAGATE DAT 04106-XXX". It shows up with a hwmgr -show scsi" command.
I run a dump which seems to complete without error. But then I'm
unable to read the tape. I get I/O errors. And subsequent references
to the device yield error messages that there is "No such device or
address".
I'm unsure if it's hardware problems or something else, such as I'm
not using the appropriate device name. There were several devices
created when the system detected the drive.
/dev/tape/tape0_d[0-7]
/dev/tape/tape0{,c}
Since I'm updating the /etc/ddr.dbase, How important is the density
value? I'm confused about if I should use /dev/tape/tape0_d0,
/dev/tape/tape0_d7, or just /dev/tape/tape0.
Am I reading the documentation correctly that I could bypass the use
of the -C option by using a device name of /dev/tape/tape0c?
I'd appreciate any assistance on this.
Thanks!
