I attempted to rebuild the kernel on a v4.0d machine to add the PacketFilter
driver. After moving the new kernel into place and rebooting (I was gutsy
and did this remotely), the machine got to the point of responding to pings
across the network, but before I could get logged in, it went away. After
travelling to the console, I could tell that it had rebooted, but it had
stopped in the process. One of the last lines concerns me, it says "You are
not priviledged to run the voliod command", then it says it that a resync of
the volume in group rootdg is started, and just stays there. This machine is
part of an ASE pair, and the other side is up and running, but I haven't
tried the kernel rebuild on that one yet. I've tried to boot to single user
mode on this, and tried what I thought was the generic kernel, but the same
thing happens. I can't get in to the OS. Any suggestions?
The commands I tried from the SRM were:
>>> boot -fl /genvmunix
and
>>> boot -fl s
