Mirror using LSM

Hi managers,

I've seen some instalations with DEC storage array Enterprise 10000, that
managers mirror disk between two diferent shelfs.
The hardware doens't allow the mirror between two diferent shelfs.
Other managers told me that this mirror via LSM is bad for the performance.
The only reason for that is a single-point of fail in one shelf. Is there a
single-point of fail when I have dual controller, dual power suppy, dual
battery and dual power supply for the battery?

Can I have high security mirroring in the same shelf?
