tape device can't be accessed after I break the opration of tape device,why?

Dear Sir:
    This morning, I ran a command on Digital Unix 4.0d : tar cvf /dev/rmt0h /data ,
but I break this opration before it completed. then , when I want to run this command again,
the error messages is : Device /dev/rmt0h is busy!
    I can't find such a process (tar cvf /dev/rmt0h /data) with ps command.
    What can I do with it except for shutting down computer.
    If Someone has experience on it ,please tell me! I 'll appreciate it very much.
