My original question was :-

The recommend solution was to install C2 security and change to ENHANCED
security.
Hovwever I also received the following email from Dr. Thomas P. Blinn
+ UNIX Software Group + Compaq Computer Corporation
All kinds of things in older releases KNOW that user names can not be
more than 8 characters. There is no workaround. Support for longer
user names is planned for a future release -- but I don't think it's
in V5.1, due out later this year. However, in that release, all of
the standard utilities have been built to be able to support up to a
64 character login name (see the definitions in /usr/include/limits.h).
I have yet to try th C2 security option.
