Increasing per process memory allocation

AS 4100 with 4GB RAM, 9B swap, running 4.0F PK

We have an image analysis program that is failing (according to the
developers) on large images because the system is not giving the
process enough memory. Is there any limit on the memory allocated
per process and if so, what do I need to tune to increase that
allocation?
