Replacing original disk shelf in 2100?

Hello...

  I have a Alpha Server 2100 that has a :

        1. KZESC controller.
        2. Original 2100 narrow disk shelf (internal) with JBOD's
        3. BA35E-SA wide disk shelf (internal) in 2nd. shelf area with a
              raid group.
        4. UNIX 4.0D

I have purchased a used KZPAC-CB controller but I have discovered that I
can't use the original narrow shelf with this controller, but I can use it
with the other wide shelf. What I want to do is purchase another WIDE
shelf (I think it's part # BA35E-SA) and replace the original narrow one with
this new one. Can I just do that? I assume that the shelf doesn't have
any logic on it and it just powers the drives - right?

My long term plan is to migrate to 5.0a, hence the purchase of the KZPAC
as I was told the KZESC is 'retired' in 5.0a (whatever retired means).

Thanks in advance for any information you can send my way...
