2 different machines on 1 SCSI bus?

Admins,

I'd like to setup a test configuration, but before starting, I'd like your
expert-opinion on this:)

Is it possible, to configure 2 tru64 Alpha machines, which are not identical
but do have a shared diskpool?
For example:

        machine1 - DS10 machine2 - DS20
           || ||
|-|-------------------------------------------------|storage|
(a) (b)

DS20=dual cpu
a=termination
b=raid array: RA8000/RA3000

Using differential SCSI, like shown: (2 Y-cabled to the machine, one
termination at one side, storage at the other side)
I guess this creates a correct bus, right?

Okay, I know it's not common to ask a lot of questions at once in a mailing
list, but those question are so very related, I decided to post them all at
once:

Can a DS10 ans DS20 boot from RA8000/RA3000, or more specific:
Is it possible to run fully on the DS20 machine and leave the DS10 swhitched
off until there's something wrong with the DS20; the DS20 is then switched
off and the DS10 switched on, booting from a shared system disk in the
storage cabinet?

I guess I still need some kind of member-specific disk with the specific
configuration per machine, right?

Do I need clustering software in this configuration?

Any suggestions would be appriciate very much.
Thanks in advance,

Alex Harkema
