I posted a request for information regarding a SOLARIS/snoop like utility
for Dunix. Many thanks for everybody's response:

ETHERMAN also requires the HERSHEY font set. Most people suggested that
this should be available on the same server as the ETHERMAN download, but I
couldn't actually find it. Paul Casteels & Robert Mulley were both kind
enough to provide me with an archive of the HERSHEY fonts
(/usr/local/lib/hershey) which I restored just fine.
You need to add the line:
options PACKETFILTER
to the kernel config file and build a new kernel + reboot, then generate the
device files.
# cd /dev
#./MAKEDEV pfilt
Then just running "etherman -I interface" should bring up the GUI. Hope this
helps.
Robert Mulley gave some useful background to the product. It started at the
Curtin University in Australia. At least one of the creators started a
company called NDG Software, which decided to resell the product as a
package called Netboy. Obviously meaning the son of Netman. As such I
believe that development of etherman stopped at 1.1a.
Some people suggested that ETHEREAL was a better alternative to the rather
old ETHERMAN. The general consensus was however to use 'tcpdump' which is
supplied now with all Tru64 distributions. This is very much like Solaris
'snoop'. To be able to capture packets you have to enable PACKETFILTER in
the kernel and also make the pfilt devices in /dev (cd /dev;./MAKEDEV
pfilt0).
Many thanks everybody for the help.
best regards - Tony

We have a network problem on one of our systems here - the detail is not
relevant. However, we were uncertain if the network interface was working
properly. I wanted a snoop equivalent utility (Solaris).
Having searched the archive, I found a reference to 'etherman' which sounds
excellent. I have downloaded v1.1a (November '96) from
ftp://ftp.informatik.hu-berlin.de/pub/unix/net/netman/dec-alpha/
When I fire this up, I get a brief X window - it then dies with the
following message:
address of ***our node name here*** is ***our ip address here***
Colour display detected
Page type: A4
Warning: Cannot convert string "0" to type Widget
hershlib: Can't open Hershey fontfile '/usr/local/lib/hershey/futura.l' or
'./futura.l'.
Any ideas about this font? Where do I get it from and how do I install it?
Am I running the latest version of etherman?
I want to run this on a V4.0F+PK3.
Your help is anticipated and appreciated.
Thanks - Tony
