Thanks for several quick responses. Sean O'Connell gave us the clue that
clarified it. He said:
"Do you have any SU's in your startup scripts? I saw this once
and about freaked out until I realized it was from one of my
custom scripts."
We looked more closely, login is a few seconds *AFTER* the reboot,
and probably comes from sshd startup.
Further examination reveals system did the same thing - reboot, then log
console root access - 32 days, 16 minutes earlier. We are now wondering
what happens at that interval that might cause the system to reboot???
Any ideas??
