Several people suggested upgrading the firmware on the JetDirect card,
which I did and it's still hanging. "Most" print jobs originate from one
server. There are a few stray jobs that get printed directly, and some
have suggested this may cause it to hang, but those are not frequent enough
to cause it to hang this often.
I'm also going to try another's suggestion... a cron job that resets the
queue. If I get the time, I'd like to have it check the time on the queue
and if not fairly current, then reset. But my scripting skills are rusty....
Here's a hung queue from last evening (run at 9:30am, Aug 3rd) notice the
time stamp:
>phy.syr.edu> lpq -P205hp5si
>phy.syr.edu: Wed Aug 2 15:47:54 2000:
>Rank Pri Owner Job Files Total Size
>1st 0 rosez 612 /usr/spool/samba/hfspi.aaxaka 189100 bytes
>2nd 0 rosez 613 /usr/spool/samba/hfspi.aaxaka 123508 bytes
>3rd 0 rosez 614 /usr/spool/samba/hfspi.aaxaka 377995 bytes
Now after the queue was reset, it has a current time:
>suhep.phy.syr.edu> lpq -P205hp5si
>suhep.phy.syr.edu: Thu Aug 3 09:31:37 2000:
>Active connection from 128.230.0.0
