upgrading system drive

We have al alpha8400 with a 4.3 GB root drive on a SWXCR controller
(raid level 1). I need to upgrade this to a 9GB drive. I was going to
boot off CDROM, tar cf|tar xf from existing mirror set to a spare 9GB
drive on the second internal cabinet (on a Ultra SCSI controller) which
has been partitioned and labelled properly, then stick 2 more 9GB drives
in cabinet one (in place of original 4GB drives), use RCU utility to
configure the raid set, boot off again from CDROM, make partitions and
domains and filesets on the new device and then copy the system from the
spare 9GB drive to the new / and /usr. Is there any recipe that someone
has written up for this (just in case I overlooked something). Also if I
took out the 4GB drives in the raid set and stick one of them in the
Ultra SCSI internal cabinet will I be able to use the drive to copy
system from it (it will save me the first step).

thanks
Sridhar
