updadmin removes essentials files !

Hi Tru64 Managers,

I just upgrade a GS60 from 4.0E PK#4 + TCR 1.5 to 4.0F PK#4 + TCR 1.6
(using the rolling upgrade procedure). Things were running
smoothly. As a final stage, I decided to run the program
/usr/sbin/updadmin in order to remove "obsoletes" files.

For a reason I'm unable to understand, updadmin removes some essential
files, like (extract from /var/adm/smlogs/upd_obsolete_files) :

./usr/sbin/showdbb OSFINET435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/sbin/dupatch OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/sbin/collect OSFPAT00058200435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM

./usr/lbin/volatile.dat OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/sysconf OSFPAT00058200435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/patmenu OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/patch_fman OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/patch_blt OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/ordersubsets OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/identifymanualpatches OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/getcvar OSFBASE435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/dskcoll4d OSFBASE435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/checksum_blt OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/ProcessBLTData OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM
./usr/lbin/CreateBLTData OSFPAT00000017435 DELETED_FROM_SYSTEM

As you can see, I no longer have /usr/sbin/dupatch. No way to install
a new patch kit ! Some of the missing files in /usr/lbin prevent
fverify(8) to work !

I never run updadmin on this system before (its life began as an
AS8200 running 4.0B + TCR 1.4). But I had ran this command a few times
on various Digital UNIX systems before, and never saw this behaviour.

We'll upgrade a sistership system tomorrow : I plan to copy the
removed file from the new system. The list of files will be taken from
/var/adm/smlogs/upd_obsolete_files. Do I need to restore another
(hidden) files ?

Additionnal question (may be related) :

Patches 309 and 351 fail to install because they were unable to find
the origin of some files, like /usr/lbin/sysconf and
/usr/lbin/collect. Please note that these files were then removed by
updadmin. I don't know if these events are related.

I'm fairly sure that these files haven't been modified, except by
Digital Unix upgrade procedures.

Thx,
