TCS 5.0a and the Quorum Disk...

Sometimes we only see the things we want to see, particularly during the
boot sequence of an AlphaServer running Tru64. I've installed TruCluster
5.0/5.0a over a hundred times now, and saw something last week that I never
noticed before. (Well, actually, it was pointed out by a student in my
class last week.)

Hardware is two AlphaServer 2100s in a TruCluster with MC1 boards (virtual
hub) and a RaidArray 310.

When the cluster incarnates, the start-up node grabs the quorum disk. Then
the second node joins the cluster. It appears that the first system
releases the quorum disk, and the second system then grabs it and has
control of it. The cluster continues to form and everything goes fine.
It's just this notion of releasing the quorum from one system to another
that is bugging me. Can anyone explain it?

Cheers,
Ed.
