Hi,

Now, this thing is starting to really bug me.

As I wrote, the screeen goes black when xlogin starts and nothing happens.
The green light in the 'on/off' button flashes and everything looks like the
screen simply cannot show what it is asked to show.

Dr.Tom Blinn pointed out that it is most probably due to a hardware failure.

But when I configure the system with xdm, it works and I get the X display
correctly running.

As far as I know, the display characteristics are defined in Xserver.conf
which is used in both situations. This is why I dont understand that xlogin
dosent work and xdm does.

The Unix system is installed with another display attached than the one
currently in use. Is there some file in CDE where the display is defined (-
and which should then be corrected)?
