Hi admins,
I'm looking for advice from anyone who has implemented a backup machine to
act as a disaster recovery machine for various production machines. We
currently run about 20 pairs of DS20 machines under lsm with advfs file
systems on top. I am trying to configure a backup machine so that
irrespective of the lsm and advfs configuration of the system that needs to
be recovered from tape it can be accomodated.
I realise that it is possible to create a bootable backup tape, which is one
way round this but I have been told to have a hot machine on standby in case
any accident or emergency happens. The main prob;ems I can forsee are
transferring the lsm metadata configuration from the crashed machine to the
backup machine. We do a system backup on all our production machines and
this could easily include any relavent information.
I understand that there is a facility in lsm which enables the export and
import of lsm metadata, but I have not used this in anger as yet. Would
this be a good way of attacking the problem or are there any other
suggestions you can offer.
thanks in advance
Graham Charley
