All:

I received several replies to my question. I also found a reference in the
archives which I did not discover initially.

Most of the replies indicate using a utility call sudo.

I also received the following suggestion from Lucio Chiappetti of creating
an alias for non-privileged users:

alias cdon
smount -r -t cdfs -o rrip,noversion /dev/rz4c /cdrom

alias cdoff
sumount /cdrom

where smount and sumount are COPIES in /usr/local of the standard mount and
umount command, set-uid to root :

-rwsr-sr-x 1 root system 376832 Sep 10 1996 /usr/local/smount
-rwsr-sr-x 1 root system 253952 Sep 10 1996 /usr/local/sumount

Thanks everyone

Subject: mounting cdrom

All:

My Unix is a bit rusty, so this may be a very simple question but
How do you go about allowing a user to mount a cdrom without having to have
super user privilege?

thanks
