Summary: pkgadd for Tru64

Thanks to all who responded however, it appears I was unclear in explaining my objective. Our development group writes software that will run on either our DEC or Sun boxes. We only want to have one install script, pkgadd, so that when it gets installed folks don't need to know if they are on a Sun or DEC box.

rich [raf_at_ezunx.com] informed us that pkgadd is on the associated products CD and that is the answer I was looking for! Thanks Rich.
Other responses were interesting also, from recommendations to use Linux's rpm, to the fact that pkgadd replaces setld in the release 5.1.
Thanks to all. Following are the actual responses:

Actually in V5.1 Compaq introduces a new replacement for setld - it is
pkgadd but under a different name.

The command for loading software subsets on Tru64 UNIX is setld

Installation programs are /very/ specific to the UNIX
architecture. Your best bet is to write a wrapper that
will drive either pkgadd or setld depending on the
platform.

If you would be interested in having a wrapper written
rather than writing it in-house, please give me call.

A colleague in Carinthia uses "rpm" to maintain packages under both,
Tru64 Unix, Solaris and Linux. The RPM sources can be had for free
and RPM has lots of nifty features. Contact:

Since setld and pkgadd are completely different
package management products, the answer is no. There
is no port. The easy thing to do is to use something
like rpm, on both system types. Atleast that is open
sourced and can compile on both.

pkgadd is supported on tru64, but the packages have to
have been created with it. Problem is, the packages from Compaq
will not be created with it. You can find pkgadd on the
CD's (I forgot if it is on associated products 1, 2 or the
freeware cd) I do have pkgadd on my system, only because
there are a few packages that I manage with it.
