Hello everyone - it's been a while since I posted to the list, since I
haven't been using DEC's products, but I just got lucky at a surplus
sale, and acquired a DEC 3000/600.
It was working fine before the de-install (I know the people that ran
it) and it came to me complete except for a system disk. I used the 5.0
firmware update disk to upgrade it, then installed Digital Unix 4.0D.
All was well, I safely rebooted and logged in, worked a bit, then shut
down till later.
Now when I try to boot, I get the following message during the boot
tests (in the middle of the list of OK messages):
?? 80b 0050 192MB
if I try to boot, I get a machine check error and a panic after the
sizes of code, data, and bss are printed.
Running "test mem" gets me(abbreviated version):
?? 80b m 0x0050
Failed status=50 Test {NULL} addr = 00058cf0
I did find a similar question in the list archives, but no answer. It
doesn't seem to be an actual memory error - I swapped memory around to
no avail. I even found a note in the firmware docs about more complete
memory testing causing spurious errors on other DEC 3000s, so I turned
off MOP as recommended. Could this be related to the new firmware? I
could downgrade to an older version if that would help.
Thanks for any information,
Erik
