I had posted this same problem awhile back. At the time, the "uptime"
command showed a load of 30+. I had rebooted the machine before getting any
responses from the mailing list here. The problem seems to be back, this
time the load is at 7.xx ish. Apparently the load value coincides with how
many defunt processes there are (apparently defunct processes of inetd).
I've gone as far as to kill the inetd father process, sigterm and sigkill --
it does get killed, but the defunct processes remain. Likewise, the last
time that this happened (when the sysload was 30+), there were roughly 30
defunct processes in the PCB. I'll include some ps output and my inetd
config -- any additional comments/suggestions welcomed.
