Hello All,
Although the release notes for 5.1 list 4.0g -> 5.1 as a viable upgrade
path I was unable to do so on an alpha 4100. I did do that upgrade path
successfully on a 2100 however. There was a posting to this list saying
that 4.0f -> 4.0g -> 5.1. Does anyone know what the reasoning behind that
was? I'm curious if my 4.0g -> 5.1 woes are similar to anyone elses.
After loading all of the software sets the 5.1 kernel failed to build.
The upgrade logs said the failure may be due to layered products. The
generic kernel booted, and when I tried to build a kernel (doconfig -C
sysname) from the system configuration file it failed with a syntax error
on lines 59 and 65 (pasted here). The same configuration file builds a
kernel under 4.0g though. Currently I'm at 4.0g and things are running
fine.

I attempted to comment out lines 59 and 65, and still got the syntax error
on the same lines. I attempted to run sizer and it complained about not
being able to find root, dump, and swap information.
I've logged a call with Compaq support, but the only answer was to try
again and if 5.1 fails to build try a doconfig after renaming
/usr/sys/conf/SYSNAME. That doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I'm
wondering if I should try going to 5.0a first.
Any ideas out there?
