hostid being reset

I am seeing an issue on one of our Tru64 4.0f systems where the hostid is
getting reset to 0
intermittently for unknown reasons. We are unable to relate it to a reboot
or any other system event -
it may occur on a reboot but does not necessarily do so - we reboot
frequently without the hostid getting reset.

It fix, we are entering:

kwajdev:root % hostid
0
kwajdev:root % hostid 10.20.30.40
0xa012345

But this is not acceptable - we have an application that requires that the
hostid be correct and the only way we can
tell if it breaks is when the application breaks.

I asked Compaq support but they were not able to give me an explanation or
fix as yet.

Thanks in advance; any help would be appreciated.
