RFC 2783 defines an API for applications to get access to "Pulse
Per Second" (PPS) generators. Typically, this is used by
timekeeping software, such as the NTP daemon, to maintain
accurate synchronization with clock hardware that generates a
precise and accurate signal pulse once per second.
For more information on this API, see the RFC at
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2783.txt
Compaq's Tru64 UNIX engineers are evaluating whether it would be
feasible to support this API. It would be helpful to know how
many Tru64 customers would actually use this API if it were to be
provided in a future release of the product.
Note that there is no current plan to support this API. Also
note that in order to use it, a customer would have to obtain and
connect hardware that is not sold or supported by Compaq.
If you are a Tru64 UNIX customer and you would be likely to use
this API if it were available, please reply to this message, with
a brief message explaining why you would be likely to use the
API, and approximately how many Tru64 systems would be affected.
PLEASE do not respond otherwise. (I am not able to deal with
requests for PPS API support for other operating systems, and I
would rather not receive zillions of messages asking for further
information on the API or telling me that you are not interested!)
Thanks
