Ladies and Gentlemen,
a question concerning the possibility of cloning a system.
I have a DEC Alpha 1000 4/256 with the StorageWorks 200 (=Mylex)
RAID-Controller.
The six HD´s in the system are set as : Channel 0 empty, Channel 1 Slot 0
JBOD, Channel 1 Slot 1+2 and Channel 2 Slot 0-3 RAID 5 (one logical drive
of 5 Disks).
The complete system is on the single JBOD disk, the (critical) data and
mountdirs for external users are on the RAID5 set.
Last week I managed to get a second Alpha that is perfectly identical with
the first machine. I want to use it as backup system, so I think it would
be best to simply clone system A to B.
Question is how - for obvious reasons, simply tarring out the / of A and
resoting it to B wont do.
The RAID controller is configured identical, the disksets are defined. The
filesystem is made on the JBOD disk, but not on the RAIDset, cause i want
to do that later with the dxadvfs.
There is one slot left in Channel 1 - is there a way to insert the JBOD
disk of B in A and to make a mirror (something linke dd if=/dev/re0
of=/dev/rxx)? Or do you have any suggestions to make the procedure
(comparatively) quick and easy?
thanks for any hint
YS, CW
