There is a method not involving hardware modification to bypass poisoned SROM.
>>>edit NVRAM
>>>10 set srm_boot ON
>>>exit
>>>boot<your install media device>
I understand that this also works on the Digital Server 5300 series.
The hardware modification route would involve cloning a SROM from an equivalent
Alpha Server and replaces the SROM on your daugter card, or replacing the card
with one from an equivalent Alpha Server. As editing the NVRAM as above
is semi-permanent and does not need to be repeated at every power on, the
hardware modification is probably excessive.
Once again, many thanks to all that helped. I now have a functional True64
install on the box and have had absolutely no hardware support related
problems. X is fine, networking is fine, all storage devices are accessible.
