We have an ancient DEC 3000 machine here and as of the last two weeks or
so, the mouse has been locking up about every second day. In the message
log the following message appears -
Dec 19 16:35:56 jst vmunix: ws: Tablet pointer unknown
and the only way we have found to fix the problem is a reboot which seems
a little drastic. So far, every test I have carried out on the mouse says
teh mouse is ok and I have even swapped it with another machine's mouse and
keyboard, but that didn't help much. I guess I'm looking at either a
hardware fault somewhere on the motherboard or a OS issue.
What I was hoping was someone knows of some way to either reinitialise or
restart the "tablet pointer". I have no idea is such a thing even exists
on the DECs, so I'm acting blind. I've had a look through the system and
couldn't find anything, so I'm deferring it to my learnered collegues to
see if anyone has any wonderful solutions.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Ryan.
