Steve supplied exactly the sort of answer I was looking for....
Hi Jason,
The answer is pretty simple ... It is because 5.0 was released before 4.0G.
There's usually a standard period of time from the launch of a release
before it goes out of support. Major releases (eg. 4.0F, 5.1) tend to get
more time than hardware/interim releases (eg. 4.0E, 5.0) because we expect
customer will stay there a while once they get there. In addition, hardware/
interim releases tend not to get as many upgrade options.
After that, we may decide whether we're going to offer prior version support
(PVS) after that. In this case, we don't offer this for 5.0. This just
depends on how many released versions will be around and whether we can
support all of them. In this case 5.0a is a viable upgrade path and we would
encourage customers to upgrade, rather than offer the PVS.
Hope this helps!
Steve
Thank You all
Jason
