Thank you to :

"From looking at the manpages (I'm installing my v5.1 system now and
haven't
set up BIND yet.) it looks like /etc/named.conf replaces
/etc/named.boot.
The syntax is documented in the manpages. The rest of the mechanism
seems to
be the same."

Convert your named.boot to named.conf.
I believe the script that you need is named-bootconf.pl.
I have tar'd and gzip'd my source back up.
If you go to the bind site
http://www.isc.org and get the latest
version,
it should include that script.
If you don't host a lost of zone files, I can send you the generic
format
of the new file.

DNS database file (db file and the reverse lookup files ) formats for
bind 4
& bind 8 are different.
You can either manually edit the database file to convert or use a
utility.
There is a utility called h2n (host to named) which would create DNS
tables
from the /etc/hosts file
(not to convert version 4 databse files to version 8).
Unfortunately I donot have a copy of that programe.
Please Check www.isc.org/products/BIND to find out lataest version of
BIND
(I think 8.2.2.-P5 got security bugs, hence go for 8.2.2-P7 or above)

Yes indeed. Consult the BIND FAQ at
http://www.nominum.com/resources/faqs/bind-faq.html#install
Essentially the changes from BIND 4 to BIND 8 are (or should be)
There is another change concerning TTL mentioned in
http://www.nominum.com/resources/faqs/bind-faq.html#nottl
However on our Suns I did not need to do it. Sun BIND documentation
says their BIND is a patch of
http://www.isc.org/products/BIND/
product, so perhaps they've worked around this issue.

------------------------------------------
As you may be aware, under Bind version 8 named.boot is replaced with
named.conf, which has a completely different format. There is a
conversion
script called named-bootconf.sh, but I can't remember what the path is.
It
should be installed (but not run), when you installupgrade from version
4.0*
to 5.*. Here is a copy of it, if you can't find it on your box.
