Fun with fibre-channel HBAs

System is an ES40 with dual KGPSA-CA fibre-channel HBAs attached to dual
SanSwitch 16 (compaq's rebranded brocade fibre switches, I think). OS is
Tru64 UNIX 5.1 with patch kit 2 installed, firmware is 5.8-43. HBA firmware
is 3.03X2(1.11). The back-end storage is HSG80 stuff running in DRM mode.

I've been experimenting with unplugging the HBAs while the system is up
and running. :-)

The problem is that once I unplug an HBA, plugging it back in doesn't work,
i.e. it won't re-sync and no longer becomes a path to the storage units.
(The blinking amber light on the HBA don't blink no more)

I'd like to be able to re-enable the HBA from the OS w/o having to reboot.
Rebooting does solve the problem, and doing this same unplugging and
replugging stunt while the ES40 is at the SRM works, i.e. when plugged back
in, the amber "everything is okay" light blinks.

>From the switch side of things, the port on which the re-plugged HBA is
attached comes up in the No_Sync state, meaning there is light, but is out
of sync.

So, anyone know if I can re-sync from UNIX? I'm hoping that hwmgr can help
or maybe scu. emgmgr doesn't help. It always fails claiming:

Warning: Unable to locate all 2 emx attachments - found 0
Unable to configure for emx subsystem

Thanks.
