Thanks for all of you who have replied to my initial question:

>I have a similar problem with slow login on a True64 4.0D machine. When
>accessing the machine from clients which are neither in the DNS nor in the
>/etc/hosts, the telnet or ftp login can take over 1 minute. Any Ideas
>would be appreaciated.

The replies Included:
1. Adding he clients to the /etc/hosts. (Thanks Robert, Clegg, Kat, Richard)
2. Verifying the contents of /etc/resolv.conf file. (Thanks Andy)
2. Registering the whole subnet with the DNS. (Thanks Nikola)
3. Verify that tcpwrapper is installed correctly. (Thanks Marie-Claude)
4. changing the name resolution to direct ip addressing. (Thanks George)
5. Check disk and network congestion. (Thanks John)

From your answers, it seems that I am stuck with adding all of the clients
into the /etc/hosts file. The main problem is that the dhcp server (which
supplies the client ID's), and the DNS server are not owned by the same
group. I can therefore not add the the dhcp addresses to the DNS, nor can I
add the subnet to the DNS.

Thanks all for the help.

If someone comes up with any other ideas, i'm all ears. But for now I gues
I will have to go add a few hundred entries to my etc/hosts :(

Ron
