"Verify" during the firmware upgrade process means verify the firmware image
matches what is on the patch. Therefore you would expect it to fail before
the patch is applied. Thank you to John Francini for quickly and graciously
pointing this out. My question and his response follow.

Hi Everyone
I am trying to apply Firmware Upgrade v5.8 to a GS-140 system. When I
perform the "Verify" option from the UPD> prompt I receive a status of
"FAILED" on the following two lines:
DEVICE Cur Rev Filename Update Revision Status
kn7cg-ab0 v5.7-6 kn7xx_fw v5.8-2 FAILED
kn7cg_ab1 v5.7-6 kn7xx_fw v5.8-2 FAILED
I exited from the upgrade without performing any changes. I am hoping
someone will be able to advise on what to do next. As an aside, we have
performed this firmware upgrade on another GS-140 with sucess and during the
verify all the lines showed a status of PASSED.
Thank you very much - I will happily summarize.

It failed because you attempted to verify the OLD firmware (on the running
system) against the NEW firmware on the CD. Note the version numbers in the
printout you supplied. The running firmware is v5.7-6 while the CD version
is v5.8-2.
The verify command can only verify that the running system's firmware
matches what's on the CD.
If you did a verify before doing an upgrade on the _other_ GS140s -- and the
verify passed -- it means that the upgrade was unnecessary, as the system
was already at the firmware rev supplied on the CD.
The order is to do the upgrade and then do the verify. If the verify fails
at that point you have a problem. If you do a verify before the upgrade, and
the verify fails, all that it means is that you are running different
firmware from that found on the CD.
Hope this helps,
John Francini
