My original question.
I have an Alpha Server 2000 4/233 and I am running Tru64 4.0e.
Last Sunday I manually shutdown the server using shutdown -r now. All of
the normal messages that show during a reboot were viewed on the screen.
Yesterday when I was working with Compaq TS about a different problem
where I needed to know what is going on during the reboot there were no
messages at all.
I shutdown the system and the only message that I saw was that shutdown
time has arrived. The console went blank and then nothing until it had
the login screen again. Nothing has changed that I know of. Can any one
help me out??
The TS guy thinks that it is hardware related. I willl call them today
but I don't think it is the problem.
I did try to search the archives but no luck. I will Summarize.
The results.
I had many people respond and try to help me out. Between the Tech
support person and myself we had already tried all of the responses. It
turns out it is hardware related. I found out yesterday that if I issue
the shutdown command and then power cycle the monitor (Running
graphically) then all of the messages come up and everything works
normally.
So something is wrong with the monitor or the video card. It is not
a big problem we don't do a manual boot very often.
Thanks for all of your help. I do appreciate it.
