QUESTION:
Anybody knows where I can get tape leaders for a DLT
Mini-library (Model DS-TL891-NT), Compaq P/N
103368-001 aka DLT7000??????
HISTORY:
we have couple tape drives, and pretty much when they
go bad, (tapes getting stuck, loader fault error
messages from detached tape leaders), all we had to do
was replace the tape leaders. (Tape leader: located
inside the tape drive, used for pulling the tape out
of its catridge to the drive for writing).
I had a couple left around by a previous Compaq tech,
used them over the course of a the year. These DLT's
are not under warrantly or maintanance, so I have been
fixing them myself.
Bumped into a problem this time: Ran out of
replacement tape leaders. Can't find them anywhere.
Quantum says they dont sell individual parts!!!!, I
have to call maintanance people (2hrs minimum,
$150/hr) for something I can do in 10 minutes!! Called
1-800-okCOMPAQ (was told we have lifetime phone
support, bought tape drives thru Compaq), they say we
have to buy a new drive!! (I know that is not true,
for I have fixed several, I can even move a good tape
leader from one drive to another, and all works well).
Also contacted Quantum ATL (bought/merged with
Quantum). Finally found a company located in Canada,
which sells them, catch was, they don't ship to the US!!
