wu-ftpd daemon processes stuck in run state

Hi,

I have another DS10 Tru64 Unix 5.1 + Patch Kit 2 system, running wu-ftp
(latest 2.6.1) which seems to be having a problem with disconnecting
sockets/processes associated with ftp clients. It's a heavily used system
and there are often CLOSE_WAIT and FIN_WAIT showing up in netstat for the
ftp service. These disappear after a while, however the real problem is
that instances of the ftpd process remain in a run state and consuming
processor time. They also appear to be un-killable! Sending a -9
or -TERM kill signal has no affect on these processes. This problem has
occured before, and the only solution was to reboot. I'd like to know
if anyone knows (a) how to kill these/why they ignore -9 and (b) if
anyone has seen this behaviour from wu-ftpd before.

196510 root 49 0 5728K 647K run 713:21 19.20% ftpd
196478 root 48 0 5728K 647K run 714:50 18.70% ftpd

Any advice appreciated,

Paul
