I received various replies. A majority blamed the power management system
(confirming my initial suspicions) and suggested disabling disk spindown
on a system-wide basis. (This can be done by running the dxpower utility,
or by setting the pwrmgr:disk_spindown parameter to 0 with sysconfig.)
No one actually supplied any ddr.dbase stanzas. I was hoping for a "yes,
you need to set "PwrMgmt_Capable = false" for those drives"
(or perhaps some other, better tuning). If it worked, this would allow the
spindown feature to be controlled on a drive-by-drive basis. In fact, I've
tried creating my own stanza with PwrMgmt_Capable = false, then
running ddr_config -c (followed by ddr_config -s ... to check the result),
but that didn't stop the errlog entries. Maybe one needs to reboot for this
change to take effect. (I couldn't afford to try.)
