refurbished alphas?

Thanks to our world-class purchasing department, we missed out
on the DS-20E promotion Compaq was running at the end of last year. As
it stands now, Compaq can provide a DS-20 for a similar price to the
promotion, but that would be a refurbished unit.

I'm curious what other managers experience, if any, have been
with refurbished equiptment? I should note that we'd be using new HDs,
and installing our own SCSI controllers, and putting the machine on
maintenece contract. Is it safe for production systems or do we bite
the bullet and buy new again?

        Thanks as always!
