As usual, an instantaneous response from the list. The
unanimous sentiment is that provided Compaq is willing to certify the
equiptment for maintenence contract, that it is perfectly acceptable in
production environments. As well, no one who responded had ever
received non-working refurbished units. Everyone suggested buying only
from reputable dealers.

Several other interesting facts were pointed out. Several
managers pointed out that any repairs on a machine serviced by Compaq
are likely with refub'ed parts. A few people suggested having Compaq
come for a pre-certification test of the system before adding it to the
maintenence contract. Dr. Tom mentioned that it's possible the units
were from internal Compaq labs, or trade shows, etc and could
concievably be "good as new". Also, a few resellers touched base, some
with very intriguing offers!
