I recieved a handfull of replies defining the Simple-lock-timeout-exceeded
(slte) panic, and that normally this is a hardware problem, but can be a
software problem. Thank you to those who responded. I have had, and
continue to have compaq review the "slte" panic dumps of my systems. I
continue to recieve these sporadically, and compaq has ascertained that this
happens in Unified Buffer Cache (ubc). Following their recommedation's, we
have made the requested kernal changes for "ubc" values, and the errors
continue. I know of 1 other site with similar issue in the uk for whom a
special patch has been developed specifically for ubc "slte" panics. All
good admins need to weigh the pain of the crash verses the possible pain of
the unknown system changes. I was attempting to test the waters of this
group, and/or the intimacies you each may have encountered with "slte"
panics. I was hoping to have many of you know about this patch, and state
you were using it with success. Now I must go back, review the facts, and
make my decision. thank you.

Subject: tru64 v4.0F patch kit4 "simple lock timeout's"
I have a sporadic issue where GS140 multiple CPU systems under moderate load
panic with "simple-lock-timeout-exceeded" message. Do others have a similar
issue?
