sum/cksum woes

Hi all,
In an attempt to investigate a possible network funny, I
came across the following oddity with sum and cksum
on different architecture machines.

ES40, TU64 V5.0a
sum 1bytefile 00010 1
cksum 1bytefile 3772115230 1
sum 97621364bytefile 47205 95334
cksum 97621364bytefile 824828288 97621364

SGI Octane IRIX 6.5.10
sum 1bytefile 10 1
cksum 1bytefile 3515105045 1
sum 97621364bytefile 61232 190667
cksum 97621364bytefile 1918009660 97621364

i586 RH Linux 7.0
sum 1bytefile 00010 1
cksum 1bytefile 3515105045 1
sum 97621364bytefile 47205 95334
cksum 97621364bytefile 1918009660 97621364

1bytefile and 97621364bytefile sit on a disk hosted
by the ES40, and are NFS-exported to the SGI and PC

Should the results of sum and/or cksum be architecture
independant? Which of these systems is right?

Cheers,
Terry
