All,

Dagmar sent this for me.

I'm a bit busy now, as I'm about to send GS160 Cluster live, so no more mail
for a while....

Subject: RE: vdump of /usr hangs
Hi,
We had the same problem. The problem is caused by the fact that collect
locks memory pages needed for dumps. There is no patch available yet. (Can't
install patch-kits anyway in this state) However, there is a workaround:
"With the latest version collect which i got from guru, start it with the
-ol argument." (from Compaq-engineering)
You should stop collect (if you have a hanging dump, it will continue), move
collect to collect.old and replace it with the version included in this
mail. Make sure permissions are the same as those of the old collect. Then
restart collect with the -ol options (VERY important!).
Your problems should be solved after that.
If you run collect automatically, make sure you add the -ol options in
/etc/rc.config-settings from collect on both members.
Good luck!
With kind regards,
Dagmar Galama

Subject: vdump of /usr hangs
All,
We are running Tru64 5.1 Cluster on 2 GS160s.
When I vdump /usr it hangs. / (root) and /var ok, but /usr hangs after a
while.
Output as follows :
# vdump -0Cuf /gfdev-usr-backup/cluster-usr.dmp /usr
path : /usr
dev/fset : cluster_usr#usr
type : advfs
advfs id : 0x3a71880a.000a9308.1
vdump: Date of last level 0 dump: the start of the epoch
vdump: Dumping directories
vdump: Dumping 1372056574 bytes, 1715 directories, 35885 files
vdump: Dumping regular files
(this is when it stops).
It has worked before. I can't kill the process, or fuser -k the
filesystem.......
