Configuring a DEGPA Gigabit network card.

Hi,

I am trying to get a DEGPA card to work in a AS8400 running Tru64 ver
5.0A with patchkit 2 installed
The card has been installed in the machine and is recognised during
bootup.

My problems come when I try to connect to the network.

I have the following settings in rc.config
NUM_NETCONFIG="1"
NETDEV_1="alt0"
IFCONFIG_1="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.0.0"

( I am on a class B network)

All other cards have been deconfigured

I have turned of the autonegotiate using an entry in /etc/rc.local
/usr/sbin/lan_config -i alt0 -a 0

There has also been some tuning of network parameters in sysconfigtab,
namely inet: tcp_recvspace, tcp_sendspace, udp_sendspace udp_recvspace

and

socket: sb_max

But as they work ok with our 100BaseT cards I dont think they are the
problem.

Having done all this and rebooting the machine I cant see the netowrk
at all. All the led indicators on the card are out. I can ping
127.0.0.1 ok and a ping to the IP of that card itself is succesful. I
have also swapped the fibre connecter leads over to see if they were
in the wrong sockets.

My question have I missed any configuration details to get the DEGPA
to work on the network?

Also I do not have any way of accessing the network equipment so I can
check that. I am told by the netowrking people here that I am
connected to a 3Com fiber switch ( model unknown). Does anyone know
of any parameters that need to be set on switches to get a DEGPA
talking to them.

Thanks as ever
