I apologize for Compaq people to have been so direct but there are often
partnerships to propose complete solutions and Symantec or Trend Micro seem
to be leaders on the antivirus marketplace.
Thank you to the following people for their answers :

We have Sophos running on several Alphas with Tru64, v.4 and
v.5. It is a fantastic product, and I highly recommend it. It
integrates seamlessly with PMDF if you use it for mail, and it seems
that work has been done to also make it interact with Sendmail, et al.
Also, "automating" the update of new virus signatures is a snap.
It's not freeware, but if your company values the security of
having mail/files scanned at the server level, Sophos is a high-quality
product, and it most definitely runs on Tru64.

Sophos definitely lists Tru64 as a supported option.

"...If you want to change the position of the third-party software vendors,
you have to do a bit of a survey that identifies the size of the market
and get enough people to say that if the products were available, they
would purchase them. I'm sure the third-party software vendors have
already sized the market and believe that if they built the products they
could not sell them in sufficient volume to recoup their costs."

I am using Sophos scanning software on Tru64 (program name: sweep)
and a modified version of the public-domain AMaViS script
called from sendmail daemon.
It works fine. I automatically download new virus definitions
after receiving an e-mail from sophos when new def. are available.

Look into amavis - www.amavis.org - and often the reason that something is
not supported on Alpha is because of market share. If there aren't enough
potential customers for a company to make it worth porting (and supporting
as it's probably the larger problem) then often products don't make it.

you need to talk to your Sophos people again... here's from the latest
Sophos install cd:
1. About this version
---------------------
This is the latest version of Sophos Anti-Virus for the following Unix
platforms:
AIX on PowerPC
Solaris on SPARC
Solaris on Intel
Linux on Intel using libc5
Linux on Intel using libc6 *
FreeBSD Version 2 on Intel (using a.out format)
FreeBSD Version 3+ on Intel (using ELF format)
SCO UnixWare on Intel
Digital Unix on Alpha
Linux on Alpha
SCO OpenServer on Intel
HP-UX on HP-PA
Andrew Brennan <andrew.brennan_at_drexel.edu>
Sophos's pages list Digital Unix ...
Shari Skinner Hovey <Shari.Hovey_at_compaq.com>
Sophos has a Tru64 port. It's listed under their "Download's for Unix"
heading. Trend Micro also has a Tru64 port, but for whatever reason, they
are currently only releasing it in Japan.
---------------------------------------
So to summarize :
Sophos has it and it interferes perharps with sendmail. If not it's possible
to use amavis.
Trend Micro will perharps have it.

Daniel
