IP Alias

Dear mailling list readers,

I have problems with adding an additional IP address to an interface. My
ethernet card has a public IP as primary address and I want to add a private
address, so its possible to also communicate with computers on my LAN which only
have a private address. What I did was a "ifconfig tu0 alias 192.168.4.4".
Now its actually possible to connect from the LAN to this ip alias, but I
cannot establish a connection from my computer to the LAN. The reason is the
following: When I try to connect from my computer to the LAN, it will send the
request using the public ip address, so the computer on the LAN does not know
how to answer.

The question is: Is it possible to use a certain ip depending on the
destination address? I want to use my public ip, when I connect to the internet and
my private ip when I connect to the LAN.

Thanks in advance.
