[UPDATE] 4.0G runaway named

Dear all,

forgot to mention that the box was running as a slave DNS server, now
it is running as a caching nameserver and it is already "replicating"
like there's no tomorrow:

  1611 ?? I 0:00.00 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot
  1619 ?? I 0:00.04 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot
  1607 ttyp0 I 0:00.00 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot
  1612 ttyp0 I 0:00.00 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot
  1613 ttyp0 I 0:00.00 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot
  1614 ttyp0 I 0:00.00 /sbin/named -b /etc/namedb/named.boot

this is rather worrying... as I've barely re-started it.
